Best AI Chat for Group Roleplay in 2026
Most character apps are a phone call with one imaginary person. Group roleplay needs a table: several characters, maybe a human friend, a shared memory of who is holding the lantern. Very few products bother. We compared the ones that do, and generated the table on RA1.

Rooms are a first-class route, not an easter egg. You can sit with people and characters in the same log, then generate the scene when the lantern gets interesting. That is the gap Character.AI left open and Janitor never tried to fill. Catalog is smaller; the room is the feature.
SillyTavern
Best group machinery if you will operate software. Multi-character prompts, group greetings, lorebooks, and you choose the model. There is no “invite a friend who does not own a GPU.”
SpicyChat
The hosted middle. Group exists in the product chrome now. Quality and memory are whatever the subscription tier is this month. Worth a try if you want adult group RP without running a tavern install.
Everyone else
Character.AI, Janitor and Chai are 1:1 machines. You can describe a party. You cannot sit one with a friend. Discord plus a bot is a party with a drunk intern behind the screen.
