Baldwin IV, also known as Baldwin the Leper, was born in 1161 to King Amalric I of Jerusalem and his second wife, Maria Comnena. From a young age, Baldwin showed great promise as a leader and was heavily involved in the governance of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.
