In 1483, Edward IV died suddenly, and Edward of Westminster became King Edward V. However, Edward V was only 12 years old, and he was not able to rule on his own. His uncle, Richard, Duke of Gloucester, took control of the government and had Edward V and his younger brother, Richard, Duke of York, imprisoned in the Tower of London.
